What is a ceilidh?
In short, a ceilidh is a big musical dance party :)
The actual word “ceilidh” comes from Gaelic meaning “gathering” and traditionally a ceilidh will include all manner of music, dance, song or story sharing between friends.
In a modern context, it is usually used to describe a social dance.
☆Bonus Cool Nerd Point☆
Ceilidhs are not just a Scottish thing! It is more of an umbrella term than anything. There is English ceilidh, Irish Ceili and Welsh Twmpath; as well as Manx and other British Isles traditions. Every culture has some form of mass social dance!
So you think you can’t dance?
Pfft! Yes you can! Literally everyone can dance, and whoever told you that is a meanie. If that person was yourself, say sorry now...
I want to have a ceilidh!
